Information, supplied by the Australian Taxation Office, regarding the downloading of the electronic system of lodging tax returns - etax.
Note: This program is not available until Friday 1 July 2005.

The etax program is used by the general public and volunteers who participate in the Tax Help program who operate from community centres throughout Australia, of which many of these are administered by councils.

In order for Tax Help volunteers in Council operated centres to use etax, the firewall must be configured to allow the downloading of the software as well as allow for verification and lodgement of the electronic tax returns. Please find below some instructions to assist with this preparation. An IT Help desk number is also listed for further assistance.

e-tax firewall configuration

If you are a systems administrator and want to configure your firewall to allow access to the Tax Office website (including download, verification and lodgment of e-tax returns), please refer to the details below.

To download the e-tax software, access to port 80 has to be allowed to:

For verification and lodgment - https via port 443 has to be allowed to:
https://verification.etax.ato.gov.au IP 203.202.41.156
https://lodgement.etax.ato.gov.au IP 203.202.41.155
Data is transmitted using 128 bit SSL encryption.

A dedicated IT help desk will be available for e-tax 2005. This help desk will provide support for all computer-related issues. The number for this help desk is 1300 1300 17.
