Ministerial Council on Immigration and Multicultural Affairs

The Ministerial Council on Immigration and Multicultural Affairs consists of Commonwealth, state and territory ministers together with a representative of ALGA. It is chaired by the Federal Minister for Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs and meets once each year to consider and resolve issues of mutual concern.

The Ministerial Council on Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (the council) met in Melbourne on 16 July 2010, hosted by the Government of Victoria.

The Council noted that permanent and temporary migration is vital in assisting to meet skill shortages that are imposing capacity constraints around Australia and welcomed planned expansion of the migration program to meet these needs.
National Action Plan to Build on Social Cohesion, Harmony and Security
14 July 2006, Wellington.
The Council noted the positive role of migration and multicultural policies by governments to date, in achieving a cohesive society. The Council endorsed general directions being taken by Governments to implement a National Action Plan to Build on Social Cohesion, Harmony and Security. The Plan will be provided to the Council of Australian Governments for consideration.
