Regional Development Council
The Regional Development Council was created by COAG in 2001 comprising Commonwealth, state and territory ministers responsible for regional development and the ALGA President.

- The meeting's key themes included: Regional investment and regional manufacturing; measuring regional performance; regional skills shortages; demand aggregation in the information and communication technology sector; rapid growth communities; co-operation activities between jurisdictions. In addition Desert Knowledge Australia provided the Council with a presentation on desert knowledge and current activities. This communiqué sets out the agreed outcomes of the discussion.

The meeting's key theme was Foundations for investment in the regions. Chair of the Australian Bankers' Association, Mr John McFarlane, made a presentation to the Council in which he provided an overview of the factors inhibiting investment and lending in the regions and the role that governments can play in improving investment conditions.
