ALGA offers support, sympathy to people of London

The following is the text of a letter sent today to the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, by ALGA President, Councillor Paul Bell AM.
Dear Mayor
I write on behalf of local government across Australia to offer our complete support and sympathy to the people of London following the bombing atrocities that have occurred over the past few hours.
We have been shocked and appalled at the attack on the people of London and their visitors, Australians among them.
We have been encouraged, however, by the rapid response and professionalism displayed by your emergency service teams and extend our best wishes and gratitude to all concerned.
I echo the words of the Chairman of the British Local Government Association, Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart - our hearts go out to Londoners. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of London in our determination to defeat terrorism and the causes of terrorism.
