NRM3: Beyond June 2008

NHT2 and the NAP programs are due to end on 30 June 2008. The Australian Government has announced that additional NRM money will be made available after this. Governments are currently in discussion to determine the types of programs that may make up NRM3.

Framework and objectives of future programs
In April 2006 the NRM Ministerial Council endorsed a set of objectives and principles to be used to guide the development of programs post June 2008. In November 2006, the NRM Ministerial Council endorsed a Framework to guide future NRM programs.
Local government's national policy commitments
On 26 November 2006, the ALGA Board endorsed a set of national policy commitments that local government is willing to make to clearly demonstrate commitment to achieving good NRM outcomes through the regional NRM model. Further, these commitments formed a resolution to come out of the 2006 National General Assembly of Local Government held in Canberra.
Tools for local government
A number of tools and products have been developed by the local government associations which could be applicable to local governments across Australia. For more information, contact the relevant Local Government NRM Faciltitator.
