Fact sheet 5: Childcare

The Australian Government's 2005-06 Budget will provide extra childcare places, costing $210 million over four years beginning in 2005-06, in areas of Australia where there is demonstrated need.

This package includes:

  • 84,300 extra Outside School Hours Care places
  • 2,500 extra Family Day Care places
  • 1,000 extra In-Home Care places
  • assistance for 52,000 low income families through Jobs, Education and Training childcare fee assistance

As part of the Australian Government's commitment to additional childcare places, local government will receive an additional $21.4 million over four years.
