Why prepare an ageing strategy?
The preparation of an ageing strategy may not be a recipe for success, but the release of a strategy demonstrates the councils' commitment to ensuring that the ongoing contribution of seniors is recognised and that all avenues are explored to help meet the needs and aspirations of residents as they grow older.
How can your council prepare an ageing strategy? This section provides tools to support the formulation of an ageing strategy:
Tool 8- Identifying opportunities for action on ageing - This tool is a matrix to assist you in the identification of possible opportunities for action on ageing, including a range of examples.
Tool 9- Prioritising ageing actions - This tool is a matrix to support you in the prioritisation of actions based on feasibility, cost, research, time and responsibility. An example is provided to illustrate the use of the tool.
Tool 10- Developing a strategy for an ageing population - This tool provides you with an ageing strategy template. The template is divided into the policy component which outlines the strategic direction and the action component - a summary of specific actions contained within the strategy that demonstrates when, how and who will undertake implementation.
